Review: Primark Beauty brush cleaning tool

Primark brush cleaner tool review

Primark brush cleaner tool (similar here) Dr Bronner mild soap (here) The Body Shop kabuki brush (here)

Whilst I don't shop in Primark for fashion any more, on the rare occasion I do visit the store I always look at the beauty section. I'm not overly keen on the beauty products themselves, but I do quite like the tools and products-they often 'dupe' current high street fads but at a fraction of the price. I have posted before about items I picked up and have enjoyed using-from nail polish remover pots to brush cleaning spray.

I had seen that Real Techniques had launched a makeup brush cleaning mitt, which is priced at £12.99 and for that price I was just happy to use the palm of my hand as I always do. I normally add soap to my brushes, dampen them a little and then swirl them around on my hand until they start to give up their contents. It's a bit gross but after a while they seem to clean up well.

When I spotted this tool in Primark for £1.50, I thought I'd give it a try. Granted, it's much smaller than the Real Techniques palette which is more like a mitt-this would fit on two fingers if required or can be held in the hand. As before, I added soap to my brushes and then swirled them over the tool which has ridges and nodules in it to encourage dirt and grime to loosen.

It was a revelation! After just a couple of passes across the tool, my brushes looked immediately cleaner. Rather than irritating my hands (which are soft so don't have the ability to catch and scrape dirt away) the tool immediately lifted the bulk of the makeup away, and the texture of the tool helped further loosen and disperse the makeup. My brushes were cleaned thoroughly in a fraction of the time that it normally takes me to clean them.

Brush cleaning is a boring job and I can't say I enjoy it-obviously I don't want to use dirty makeup brushes but at the same time it is such an effort. Not anymore though! It was so easy to clean my brushes in a short amount of time, and definitely a worthy investment.

How do you clean your brushes?
