Winter fabrics

Navy dress New Look Black dress Primark

I have only a couple of day dresses in my capsule wardrobe and the two that are easiest to wear are probably these two cord pinnys. Cord is such a wintery fabric; I love the look of it paired with a thick jumper and as a dress it's quite an easy and versatile fabric to wear. The lint issue is probably the main drawback; any semblance of fluff clings to cord so on darker colours I have to permanently de-fluff it. Probably not the best fabric to wear if you are a cat owner!

I love the dungaree style dress which I got from Primark. I wear it with a blouse or a tee underneath depending on how smart I want it to look; the dungaree straps make it probably a bit too casual for work but it's great for the weekend. The navy one is cut with more of a shift style and is therefore a little smarter. Despite both being high street dresses they are both very good quality; cord is a fairly hardwearing fabric and these are much less obviously low price than, say, a polyester dress would be.

I think both these dresses will make the winter capsule cut; it's still to warm to really think about layering yet I'm finding but I'm not complaining as I don't really like the cold! They are both quite staple styles that seem to work well with a lot of clothes that I've already got. I like the structure that cord gives as well; they retain their shape with wear and don't crumple easily which is also a great benefit of this fabric!
