Bristol Fashion Week AW15

Bristol Fashion Week is always an important event for me because, as a blogger, it was one of the first real events I attended after moving to Bristol in 2011. It soon became a bit of a tradition to attend the shows each end of the year, and this autumn/winter show was no exception!

The theme of the show was inspired by the silver screen, and even before the show began, the experience was immersive; old Hollywood references were everywhere, from the retro film posters to the popcorn and mocktails on offer on arrival. The show began in explosive fashion with an opulent scene, as models dressed to the nines in glittering ballgowns were accosted by paparazzi on the red carpet. The cinema theme continued apace, with references to sci-fi, chick flicks and leading ladies jostling for attention next to action and enchantment movie excerpts.

Cleverly woven into these scenes was some incredibly wearable fashion. The high octane glamour and opulence, whilst not for everyday, makes partywear incredibly desirable, and heritage tweeds seen on skirt suits and co-ords bring a bit of 1940's chic to daytime looks. Low key style with a heavy trend led aspect was showcased with leather look culottes worn back to basic jersey tops and sleeveless duster coats for a look that is very now, and winter florals and textured prints emerged as key players.

Hosted this year by the irrepressible Mark Heyes who was joined on stage by Denise Van Outen, this was a lighthearted look through trends to come, translated beautifully to bridge the gap between high end and high street looks. All the products shown on the catwalk could be found in stores in the Mall, giving the show a genuine authenticity that is lacking in some of the more formal fashion shows; it's accessible and affordable, and embraces fashion for all.

I thought the show was fantastic and I'm already looking forward to the SS16 event!
