Utilitarian

All clothing and accessories c/o ASOS

I have recently been working with ASOS as they launch their new #asseenonme uploader tool. For the uninitiated, ASOS have a picture gallery on the site though which they share looks uploaded by readers, wearing products you can buy. It's a great idea because so many times I've spotted Instagram and Twitter images of girls rockin' amazing pieces and wondered where they got them from, and with the tag #asseenonme I know I can find the corresponding items on ASOS!

ASOS kindly sent me a 'key piece' to style and I was given a voucher to buy items to style the look with. The trend I was given was 'Utility' and  I was sent the jacquard peg trousers in khaki (buy here) which I was initially a little unsure how to wear; the model on the site is obviously a lot taller than me as, unrolled, the trousers come to mid calf on her, where as I have had to roll them up to make them ankle length! This is another reason I love the idea of #asseenonme, because you get to see how the clothes look on real people as opposed to amazonian-proportioned models!

I have interpreted the Utility trend in my own way, teaming khaki with black and tan to make sure the look isn't too 90's/00's (I remember having camo trousers back in the day, and wearing them to a club! cringe!) I really like the way the neutral colours ground the khaki, though, and as the trousers have the jacquard detail I didn't want to add any print, so the slouchy black shirt is perfect (buy here)

I accessorised quite heavily on this look with a pair of tan hurrache sandals (here) and unlined and simple leather duffel bag (here). The trousers came with their own belt but I updated them with a new, smaller one (here) to make it a little cleaner looking. Of course, an aviator sunny is a great nod to the utility trend and this gold pair (here) look much more expensive than they are! In keeping with the gold elements I also added a long chain necklace, which is actually from the mens department (here) but I loved how it looked against the black blouse and it also added a tougher edge to the look.

Finally no look would be finished without a hat, and this felt fedora (here) is perfect, it has a wide brim so perfect for keeping the sun out of my face!
