There's something about a brogue. I am a bit late getting in on this trend; mainly because, well, brogues always seemed to be one of two things: manly or schooly. It's true; they're either dark, drubbish colours and way too masculine, or clumpy, detail free and just yawnsome. So I decided to have a little hunt about and find the elusive 'fash-brogue'; something that blurs the boundaries between masculine/feminine and heavy/soft with ease.
The first thing I've discovered is that colour is important. Burnished metallics, soft pastels and poppy brights instantly set apart the dullsville from the covetable. Sure, a pair of black pumps are a wardrobe staple, but, come summer, only the uplifting will do.
This Castaner pair are so cute. They'd really easily dress down a summer frock but are prevented from looking too twee by the little block heel and punch out detail. Details are the second thing to look out for; pick punched, stitched or coloured styles for extra wow factor.
For something with a little more edge, this pair by Pieces, with a chunky cuban heel, add a little more glam to the normal basic brogue shape. Worn with a bodycon skirt and tights, or dark skinny jeans, they lend a funky vibe to your look. I love the colour too, a lovely darker dove grey shade that will work with any colour in any season.
For something a little more 'statement', these loud blue lace ups really tick all the shoe style boxes. They're just so summery, as well as being comfortable and a pair of shoes you can wear all day long, and even switch up to eveningwear with a carefully placed sock!

I was never sure about brogues they're not reallly my style, although those last blue ones from Betty London are absolutely gorge! Might change my mind ha-ha at least they'd keep my feet dry :P
