Wearing: Topshop dungarees (similar here and here) Gap hat (similar here) Kurt Geiger sandals (similar here)
As is usually the case, it was a picture of Alexa Chung wearing ecru dungas that surfaced last year that piqued my interest in the style. She wore them with a white 'Vogue' tee shirt underneath and multistrapped, black ballet pumps. She made them look effortless in that 'I can definitely emulate that' way, although I was wondering whether it might be a bridge too far after I bought them!
I actually picked these Toppers ones up in the sale around Christmas time, but I've only just cracked them out. I'm not sure if it's the fact that it is summer, and therefore acceptable to wear lighter coloured trousers, or that I've finally decided I don't look like a painter/decorator in them (questionable!) but I have been loving them just lately and really enjoying wearing them with monochrome colours; a black tee and sandals is all that's needed to put a simple and chic look together.
I even think dungarees can look quite smart, despite the fact that they are denim and, well, classically utility wear, I think that with smarter separates they can actually look quite formal. I would also wear them low key, too, with ballet flats and a slouchy tee. So easy to style and really easy to wear, as well. Although, I have already managed to get chocolate on them. Ecru denim is such a good idea in theory!
