Polished

Rimmel nail polish in Your Majesty (here) // Orly nail polish in Cherry Creme (similar here)

Nail polish is such a quick and easy way to add a bit of colour to your look, and whilst I usually stick to a muted palette of navy, grey, beige or nude, I don't mind using a colourful polish now and again. I have to say I usually stick to a classic; red is my preferred choice or possibly a metallic, although I like burgundy and khaki too in the winter.

I was recently given this metallic silver shade from Rimmel London and it's lovely; the glitter is particularly finely milled so it applies very smoothly and (importantly) is not a complete pain to remove, as glitter polishes usually are! The colour payoff is excellent, too; a couple of coats gives amazing shine and coverage. For £2.99 this is a worthy festive-season nail polish and would look great as an accent colour on Christmassy red nails.

Speaking of which, I got this Orly Colour Blast polish free with this month's Elle magazine (Alexa Chung cover if you want to pick one up!) The colour is Cherry Creme which I think might be an exclusive, but I've linked to a very similar one if you were interested in taking a look. It's reminiscent of the most classic of all nail polishes, Revlon's cherries in the snow, which is such a darker version of the same red; slightly blue-toned with a lustrous finish. I have been wearing this frequently since I got it and I really like the application; the colour is strong and shiny and it dries quickly, too!

Orly is not a brand I am very clued up on, but I will definitely be looking into their products with more depth as I've been really impressed with the quality of this polish! Slightly pricier than high street brands, it sits somewhere between Models Own and Nails Inc cost wise, but for a classic colour I would invest in a brand that I liked. I prefer to pick up more fashion colours cheaply, as I never know how much I'll actually wear them!
