Charity Shoppin' with Credit Crunch Chic!

Mini charity shop haul: Vintage Maxmara blanket check coat (£12) vintage David Charles velvet gilet (£6) Vintage leather frame granny bag (£4.99) vintage Vogue Natural Beauty book (£1.50) Kitty flats from Ebay

I wanted to share with you this little haul which I was lucky enough to scoop up on one of my days off last week. I hadn't been to the charity shops in my local area for some time and I felt it was long overdue, so I popped out to have a look in between visiting the sorting office to collect a parcel (the Kitty Flats above which I bought from eBay!)

I lucked out in the St Peter's hospice first of all with this gorgeous sage blanket checked Maxmara jacket. I didn't even realise it was Maxmara to start with, I just picked it up because I loved the shape and the colours in it. Its a size 12 which fits well although unfortunately it's a little too big on the shoulders, which I always find even in vintage coats because I am narrow across my back so I struggle to find coats that fit well. However it's not too structured on the shoulders so I can wear it slightly oversized without looking ridiculous (like Rodney in his camel hair coat in Only Fools!)

The second piece I found was this ridiculous floral gilet which I put on over a cream silk blouse and fell in love with. At £6 it didn't break the bank and it's a good dark floral for winter, which is always a trend! It's actually a child's waistcoat and children's vintage clothing always seems to fit me-I've got an amazing vintage navy blazer which I wear all the time which is actually a literal child's school blazer. I love this piece and though I don't wear much print, I think this will be wearable and I will feel happy wearing it because it's fun!

The vintage Vogue health book was just £1.50 in Oxfam, whereas most of their other books were around £9! I didn't get it either! I really bought this for the gorgeous plates inside. I love flicking through it and some of the DIY beauty products look really interesting so I might have a go at thrifting up some of those!

Finally, I added a camel handbag to my collection, in the A-frame style which is ladylike and cute all at once. I love the tiny gold detailing to the frame and the softly pebbled leather. I know it will go with pretty much everything I own and I adore it! At just £4.99 it's so much more affordable than even a Primark handbag, and I am sure it will last longer and I am unlikely to see anyone else with the same one!

What have you found in charity shops lately?

That bag is so cute, I never find anything I like in charity shops but I do find little boxes and glass cases for unusual cases for my rings and bits. xxx
