Trainer Trend

Trainers from Vans at Spartoo

As trainers simply become more and more mainstream, I notice that there are real micro trends for certain styles cropping up from time to time. Perhaps last year, the Stan Smith was the sneaker to be seen in; the year before, New Balance were the brand du jour, and now Vans are having their moment.

I have a couple of pairs of Vans trainers and they are so comfortable to wear. Unlike sportier styles, they work really well with streetwear and can dress down a smarter outfit in a way that a Nike trainer just couldn't manage. They are also available in a multitude of colours and styles, so whether you prefer high or low top, plain, patterned or printed, there's a style for you.

Vans are a brand with history, having been around since 1966. I love that they are not only super comfy but also incredibly well made, and to have this great heritage to their story makes it all the more interesting to me. They have a sticky waffle sole which made them popular with skateboarders, and the Sk8-Hi style (next on my wish list!) was created to support skaters ankles and stop damage from flying boards.

I love the look of a really worn in, beat up pair of Vans, but I also love the juxtaposition of a box fresh pair with a slouchy pair of trousers for a twisted casual/formal vibe. That's the beauty of them - they are so easy to wear, and in so many ways.
