Summer Look #009: The Denim Shorts

Wearing: Gap hat (similar here) Vintage vest (similar here) Topshop shorts (here) ASOS sandals (here and in the sale!) Vintage sunnies (similar here)

These pics were taken just a couple of weeks ago when that really hot spell of weather was making itself felt, and I was really excited to wear these shorts because I'd actually bought them with holidays in mind, so it was lovely to be able to wear them at home as I didn't go abroad this year. One of the things I wanted to achieve with the capsule wardrobe was to wear every item of clothing I owned at some point or other, and these shorts and the Alexa Chung playsuit were the ones I had concerns over; I rarely get my legs out unless it is absolultely boiling/I'm abroad.

Speaking of legs, apologies for how pale mine are. I had been using the Garnier summer body but I've recently discovered Fake Bake spray tan (along with the velvet mitt for application) and I'm obsessed. Typical as, if the last couple of days are anything to go by, it's high time to pack the shorts and sandals away for another year, so tanned legs aren't really necessary!

I know it's a bit boring to wear a lot of black clothes in the summer but I quite like that look with a tan (ha - I don't have that here!) and I beached up my hair by using a salt spray and plaiting it to bring out the natural wave that I flat iron out all the time. This is another go-to holiday hair style as who can be bothered to straighten or even dry their hair when it's super hot? Not me.

I seem to have spent all summer in some form of espadrille, too - there have been sliders, flatforms and these lace ups which I picked up from ASOS. They are really comfortable and look good with most things, I got a lot of wear from these and they ended up being a brilliant buy. I've got a capsule wardrobe round up post coming up on the blog soon, so I'll definitely be discussing my summer favourites there, before it gets too autumnal!
