When Boohoo.com contacted me asking if I'd like to take part in a competition they were running, I jumped at the chance! I love virtually styling and creating looks that I'd like to wear; it's so much fun and I can do it from the comfort of my sofa, cuppa in hand! No struggling in and out of fitting rooms or hunting out the perfect accessory....it's all there in front of you. Boohoo's website is particularly designed with this in mind, making it easy to flit between dresses and shoes, tops and jackets, jewellery and handbags.
The challenge I was facing was to create an outfit from Boohoo's extensive collection, suitable for a party, for under £100. This might seem like a toughie, and for me, it was-choosing what not to include was the hardest part!
My personal style is quite feminine and ladylike with a heavy hit of vintage always crowbarred in there too. I knew I wouldn't choose a dress covered in spikes or the highest of heels-nothing against anyone who prefers those styles, but they're just not me. So imagine my delight when I found this gorgeous pearl and bead zig zag border shift dress in the Boutique collection. It's a beautiful piece-short in the skirt, as I like, but not too low at the front, heavily embellished but understatedly so, and in the most divine teal colour. I love a classic black dress at Christmas time but there's something about this rich greeny-blue that's just so elegant and so different. It's so pretty and honestly looks like a vintage piece, maybe an altered flapper dress or a treasured gem rescued from Granny's attic. I adore it and at £30 it's also amazingly priced!
A dress such as this needs so little in the way of accessorising, as it's a complete statement in itself. I would add just a hint of sparkle to an up-do with a pretty pair of stud jewel and chain earrings. I love the colour of these and they're demure enough to wear every day, whilst still being special enough to wear to a party or Christmas event. These cost just £8-bargain!
Of course, Christmas parties just wouldn't be Christmas parties without a gorgeous shoe or two. I couldn't pick for ages the style that I liked, but in the end decided that anything too spindly would look twee with this dress. Because it is so delicate and pretty, I like to add an edge with a chunkier shoe to give it a bit of sass. These rather fabulous flatform ballerinas indulge two of my favourite things: the colour grey (love it!) with the ballerina shape. Seriously, how lovely? Even though they're not the most elegant looking shoes, I think they sit perfectly with this dress and the colour is a lovely accompanyment to the teal. Additionally they're so versatile-they could easily be worn with a pair of skinnies and a chunky knit once Christmas has come and gone. The pearly grey uppers will flatter the leg and they pick out the pearl tones of the dress I've chosen just beautifully. These are priced at an ever so reasonable £20.
So, my outfit comes in at a purse pleasing £58! With this in mind, I could probably pop back over to the Boohoo site and finish my Christmas shopping with the change....!
